MOFCOM to Issue New Online Retail Regulations

MOFCOM to Issue New Online Retail Regulations

China News, 10/19/11

Addressing recent protests by small and mid-sized merchants on Hangzhou-based B2C platform Taobao Mall, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Shen Danyang called today for more robust laws and management systems for online retail. Shen said that the Ministry of Commerce was leading efforts on a draft version of the new "Online Retail Management Regulations," which it hopes to release as soon as possible. The regulations will establish mechanisms for third-party transaction platforms to enter and exit the market, and will clearly lay out the rights, responsibilities, and duties of all participants in the online retail market.
